Arabesque

Draw with dominoes, then topple them! This is my entry for the April Week Sauce Game Jam; the theme was “Chain Reaction”. I was trying to figure out how to make a game out of this, but at the end it ended more like a chill drawing app. The tools are pretty self-explanatory:

• Brush: to paint lines of dominoes. Press B to switch to this tool
• Eraser: to delete them. You can double-click the Eraser button to delete the whole canvas. Press E to switch to this tool.
• Recolor: to paint the dominoes with the current foreground color. Press R to switch to this tool.
• Pan: you can pan around the canvas. Hold SPACE down while on a different tool to temporarily change to the Pan tool.
• Zoom: you can click and drag to zoom in or out, or use your mouse wheel. You can also click to zoom in a constant factor, or click while holding Alt/Option to zoom out. Press Z to switch to this tool. You can also hold SPACE + Cmd/Ctrl (zoom in), or SPACE + Alt/Option (zoom out) while working with another tool to temporarily use this tool. To reset to a centered 100% zoom view, double-click the Zoom tool.
• Mirror: select from 0 to 6 mirroring axes. Drawing in a section between axes mirrors the lines in the other sections. Press 0 to 6 to change the current mirroring selection.
• Foreground Color: select a color for drawing the dominoes from a palette of 25.
• Background Color

A red arrow will appear if you hover over the open end of a line while your brush, eraser, or recolor tools are selected. Hold…

• Alt/Option: to see all possible open ends with arrows.
• Shift: to momentarily ignore the arrow so you can start to draw a line over it.

Press one of these red arrows to start toppling. When as many dominoes as possible have toppled, two buttons will appear. Press one to reset the dominoes or the other to delete them all and start again.
